Community Action Plan

An Action Plan for Jaywick

Action plans typically have a lot in them and can be confusing and off-putting; “There is so much to do. Where do we start?” Having too many actions can dissipate the energy of community volunteers and actually be a barrier to success.

CoastNet’s approach is to focus on a few actions at a time, achieve things, then move on to consider something else. The initial focus is on the beach area, Jaywick’s greatest asset, where we have been encouraging new initiatives and inviting people to join in with postive activities from beach cleans to beach cricket, walks to storytelling.

At an event in December 2011, community members identified a series of actions in relation to promoting the development of watersports activities, and the improvement of the beach environment and seafront open spaces. The full workshop transcript can be seen here and initial actions identified are set out below.

Jaywick’s Action Plan is part of the East of England Coastal Initiative, which has been investigating the strategic issues in relation to climate change and regeneration as part of the Imcore project. Find out more about the findings and the next steps here.

July 2011:  Bright Ideas Workshop

Over the last year we have gathered many fantastic ideas for community action from local residents and we would love to have your help in putting these ideas into practise.

On the 26th July 2011 we held a workshop lunch for community leaders to deveop an initial set of actions focusing on the beach environment.  We are now inviting the wider community to comment on which actions out of over 30 identified you feel are most important, this will help us to prioritise which actions we move forward with now.
